Concern About Over‑Blocking of Human Rights Content
I am writing to report a recurring issue with your automated moderation system, I received the following error message:
“The input content may violate our content policy (violence). Error code: [insert code].”
The content in question was not promoting violence. It was documenting or analyzing government enforcement actions and their impact on communities. Unfortunately, the system appears to be flagging legitimate human rights testimony and news‑style reporting simply because it contains words like raid, assault, arrest, gang, hit, or injured.
This kind of over‑blocking has serious consequences:
It silences community members who are trying to share their lived experiences.
It prevents accurate reporting of government actions.
It creates a chilling effect on free expression and human rights advocacy.
I respectfully request that your team:
Review the flagged word lists and moderation triggers to better distinguish between descriptions of violence and promotion of violence.
Provide clearer guidance to users on how to appeal false positives.
Consider creating a “human rights / news reporting” exception category so important testimony is not suppressed.
